Macau Hosts “[Eat Fair Campaign] Infinite Food Design Challenge” for the First Time – Live Cooking of Lunch Sets to Put “Eat Fair” into Practice
[5 May 2026, Macau] Organised by Oxfam in Macau (OiM), the “[Eat Fair Campaign] Infinite Food Design Challenge”, held in Macau for the first time, was successfully concluded on 3 May. The 9 finalist teams from secondary and primary schools competed in the final round, preparing lunch sets live on site. The students showcased thoughtfully designed meals for grassroots communities, translating the concept of “Eat Fair” into concrete actions that demonstrate care for people living in poverty, respect for targets’ needs, and a commitment to sustainable food practices. The championships of the Secondary School Division and the Primary School Division were awarded to Ma Hei Man from Our Lady of Fatima Girl’s School and Yeung Ian Nok, Lo Oi Man & Wong Cheok In from Pui Ching Middle School Macau respectively.
To enhance students’ and general public’s awareness of the food‑related challenges faced by vulnerable groups, and to promote the culture of “Eat Fair”, Oxfam organised the “[Eat Fair Campaign] Infinite Food Design Challenge” during the 2025/26 academic year. Participants were encouraged to apply creativity and empathy to design affordable, nutritionally balanced, and practical lunch sets tailored to the needs of different grassroots groups. The competition received an enthusiastic response, with nearly 500 submissions from 37 secondary schools, primary schools, and kindergartens in Macau, demonstrating students’ creativity and commitment to sustainable food practices.
All finalist teams devoted considerable time to preparation and practice prior to the competition. On the competition day, each team prepared a variety of dishes on‑site for the judging panel to taste and evaluate. Members of the judging panel included Dr. Terry Leung, Director of Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan Programme, Oxfam Hong Kong; Dr. Dicky Lai, Associate Professor of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Macao Polytechnic University; Ms. Connie Cheung, Senior Director of OpenRice; Mr. Yiu Tang, Head Pizzaiolo of PizzaExpress; Mr. Tony Lei, Vice Chairman, Green Future; and Ms. Parris Fok, President of the Macau Professional Nutritionist Association. The event was also supported by various prize sponsors, with Ming Kei sponsoring the vegetables and ingredients used in the competition.
The Secondary School Category Champion, Ma Hei Man from Our Lady of Fatima Girl’s School, designed a lunch set for elderly people featuring millet and Chinese yam congee, braised eggplant with minced chicken and tofu, and corn silk tea, with a focus on elderly health, affordability, and food‑waste reduction. The Primary School Category Champions, Yeung Ian Nok, Lo Oi Man and Wong Cheok In from Pui Ching Middle School Macau, created a nutritious lunch set for women engaged in waste‑picking work, including vegetable soup, shredded‑vegetable omelette, and chicken rice casserole, aiming to provide sufficient nutrition and energy for physically demanding labour. Other student entries similarly demonstrated strong empathy for their target groups and a practical understanding of the “Eat Fair” concept.
Dr. Terry Leung, Director of Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan Programme, Oxfam Hong Kong, remarked: “‘Eat Fair’ is not just about having enough to eat. It is about eating with dignity, having choices, and ensuring fairness to both people and the environment. Through this competition, students are encouraged to think and act in real‑life contexts, which is a crucial step in nurturing empathy and civic awareness.”
An award presentation ceremony was also held on the same day. In addition to announcing the award results for the Secondary and Primary School Divisions, awards were presented to the winners of the Kindergarten Colouring Competition. Kindergarten participants likewise demonstrated creativity and drawing skills by designing lunch sets suitable for elderly people, scavengers, or primary school students, fostering an early understanding of the concept of “Eat Fair”.
The “Eat Fair Campaign” is a public education initiative jointly implemented by Oxfam in Hong Kong and Macau, aiming to encourage the public to reflect on the relationship between poverty and food insecurity, and to make changes in daily life. This year, the competition was held separately in Hong Kong and Macau, receiving nearly 1,400 submissions from 157 schools across both regions. The Hong Kong Final will be held on 16 May 2026.
