CIDRN-NeST China Chapter Event on South-South Cooperation Held in Xiamen

The China International Development Research Network (CIDRN) and Oxfam Hong Kong jointly held a conference on South-South Cooperation in Xiamen on 23-24 January, 2016.

CIDRN collected 13 case studies on South-South Cooperation and Chinese foreign aid from the researchers of the China Agricultural University (CAU), Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation (CAITEC) of the Ministry of Commerce, and Development Research Center of the State Council.

At the conference, the authors presented the main findings with regard to agriculture technology transfer, special economic zones and infrastructure. Members of the Network of Southern Think-tanks (NeST) from Africa, Brazil and India also shared their opinions from their perspectives. Furthermore, Liu Guijin, former Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs and former Ambassador to South Africa and Zimbabwe; Shu Zhan, former Ambassador to Rwanda and Eritrea; and Emily Davis of the UNDP South-South Cooperation Unit commented on these cases.

The group went on to discuss recommendations on the conceptual evaluation framework on South-South Cooperation. This was developed by NeST based on the debate during NeST’s technical workshop in South Africa in 2015. The framework provided definitions, criteria, indicators, and methodologies to measure the quantity, quality and impact of projects related to South-South Cooperation.
