Hunger-free Action

 [Eat Fair Campaign] Hunger-free Action

Despite Hong Kong’s prosperity, many grassroots families still face limited food choices and unbalanced diets as their modest incomes struggle to keep up with rising living costs.

Around the world, climate change, natural disasters and conflicts continue to disrupt food production and supply, pushing underprivileged communities deeper into food insecurity.

Through [Eat Fair Campaign] Hunger-free Action, students are encouraged to explore issues of poverty and food insecurity through service learning, experiential activities and school-based fundraising. By turning awareness into action, they can put the principles of Eat Fair into practice and contribute to building a world without poverty.

Safeguarding Grassroots Children’s Nutrition in Hong Kong: Building a Sustainable Healthy Lifestyle

Children living in subdivided units face various challenges, including health risks, restricted growth space, and psychological stress, all of which adversely affect their overall development. Among these, inadequate nutrition and an unbalanced diet significantly increase the long-term risk of chronic conditions, such as obesity and worsening asthma, through metabolic and immune mechanisms.

To address this, Oxfam, in partnership with People Service Centre, is co-organising the '2026 Community Nutrition and Wellness Initiative'. Centered on grassroots primary caregivers, the scheme offers professional training and practical application to help them master child nutrition and exercise management, ultimately establishing self-health management habits.

The project expects to comprehensively enhance caregivers' confidence, awareness and knowledge in promoting family health. By encouraging balanced nutrition and moderate exercise for children right at the source, it aims to improve the quality of life for grassroots families and ease the burden of medical expenses in the long run.

Implementing 'Hay Banks and Fresh Grass Factories' for Mongolian Herders to Restore Green Ecology

The Mongolian herders of West Ujimqin have relied on livestock farming for generations. However, intensifying extreme weather has accelerated grassland degradation, causing feed shortages and skyrocketing prices. This leaves livestock weak or dying and severely threatens the herders' livelihoods.

Oxfam implemented the 'Hay Bank + Fresh Grass Factory' model for the local community: providing low-cost feed during disaster seasons and introducing 'soilless fresh grass cultivation technology' to ensure a stable feed supply while reducing overgrazing on natural pastures. Meanwhile, climate risk training was conducted to enhance cooperative governance, and an exchange platform was established to bring grassroots voices to the policy level.

This project reduces feed costs, increases herders' income, and achieves ecological restoration. With strong institutional support, its success has become a model for climate adaptation in pastoral areas, prompting local governments to improve emergency hay storage mechanisms.

Addressing Nepal's Water Crisis: Rebuilding Resilience Through Nature-Based Solutions

In the Omugo Refugee Settlement in Uganda, communities face major challenges including youth unemployment, poor farming practices, and limited access to nutritious food.

In rural Nepal, climate change has altered rainfall patterns, causing up to 74% of spring sources to dry up in the Dhading district and worsening local water crises. Women bear around 80% of the water collection burden, spending 2 to 4 hours daily traveling back and forth, carrying a heavy physical and time burden.

Oxfam promotes a range of nature-based solutions, such as tree planting, watershed restoration and spring conservation, to strengthen community water management and enhance resilience to climate change. The project also introduces solar-powered water supply systems to provide safe drinking water and enable remote monitoring and control, reducing reliance on unstable power grids. In addition, a community water management committee will be established and equipped with training and digital tools to improve transparency and strengthen local water governance.

This project successfully integrates and stabilises the water supply, helping residents access safer and more reliable water, while strengthening their capacity to cope with the climate crisis.
