Response to Oxfam Trailwalker designated route and shortcuts

Oxfam Trailwalker 2013 concluded successfully in spite of some unexpected obstacles. We are grateful for the assistance that supporting organisations provided and for the understanding of participating walkers.

Recently, Oxfam Hong Kong has received some comments regarding Oxfam Trailwalker, mainly on the exact location of the designated route and whether taking shortcuts is allowed. We would like to make a clarification here.

We respect all walkers and hear their voices. We are eager to learn from experience, and to evaluate and consider comments from walkers and all related parties. We always strive to enhance the arrangements of the event in order to ensure the safety of all walkers and uphold fair play.

It has come to our attention that some walkers may have a different understanding of the designated route. Therefore, we would like to provide specific details about it here. We also plan to incorporate this specification as well as clear instructions regarding debatable shortcuts into our information booklet and other communication materials next year (click here).

Oxfam Trailwalker is a hiking event primarily for raising funds for Oxfam’s anti-poverty work. Under the constraints of limited resources, we rely on volunteers and supporting organisations to assist us in providing adequate back-up and safeguarding fair play. More importantly, we count on all walkers to exercise self-discipline in observing the rules and regulations of the event and following instructions.

Oxfam Hong Kong is committed to enhancing continuously the standard and professionalism of the event by putting up more appropriate measures to ensure fairness and equity. We hope that you can join us in making Oxfam Trailwalker more perfect.
