The Oxfam TowerRun is held annually at Macau Tower, the city's tallest landmark, and has been a flagship fundraising event in Macau since 2014. This year, runners from Macau and around the world will gather to celebrate its 13th anniversary by taking on the ultimate vertical challenge: conquering 1,298 steps to the 61st-floor Adventure Deck.

Under this year's theme, "Every Mind Counts,  Every Step Transforms Lives”, participants will push their physical limits while raising vital funds for Oxfam's poverty alleviation projects. Your participation makes a difference. More than just a race, the Oxfam TowerRun represents a collective commitment to building supportive communities. Whether you're running, sponsoring, or cheering, you contribute to building a movement where every step changes lives and every mind truly count.

Oxfam is committed to making the Oxfam TowerRun a major tourism and sports event in Macau, becoming the only internationally recognised tower running event in the city, and an officially recognised 120-point event by both the Towerrunning World Association and the Asia-Pacific Vertical Marathon Association.

Every Mind Counts. Every Step Transforms Lives

Left-behind children in rural China face many challenges and struggles, including limited access to educational resources and a lack of parental care, resulting in high dropout rates. Oxfam supports projects aimed at improving the educational conditions and psychological well-being of these children. We also assist families of disadvantaged children in establishing community support networks.

12-year-old Xiao Fei is cheerful and outgoing, yet quietly struggles with the challenges of adolescence. Her father works away long-term, and her mother brought her and her younger brothers to the county town for school, renting a tiny room where the siblings share one bed. As the eldest, Xiao Fei always had to yield to her brothers, and entering adolescence, she needed a private space her family couldn't afford. This long-term lack of space and personal boundaries led her to suppress her feelings, leaving her needs overlooked.

With Oxfam's support, targeted improvements to her family's living environment finally gave Xiao Fei a space of her own.

This is more than better living conditions—it safeguards a teenager's psychological needs. With her own space, Xiao Fei has left behind the cramped, stifling life she endured. She can now honour her own needs and boundaries, no longer just the sister who gives way, but a girl growing up seen and respected. Through small but meaningful changes, the project helps children in adolescence grow up confident and at ease.

XiaoRui's father has long worked away from home, leaving him and his sister in their mother's care. Earlier this year, his school set up a computer programming group. Keen to join but starting from zero, XiaoRui turned to Oxfam's project social worker for help.

The social worker connected him with a digital literacy programme at the community children's activity centre, helping him qualify for the school's programming team. XiaoRui then practised daily at the library, learning computer basics and graphical programming from scratch, consulting the social worker whenever he hit a wall.

Through persistence and mentorship, XiaoRui transformed from a novice into a skilled programmer, representing his school in competitions with excellent results. "It was the library's charity class that gave me the chance to break through my limits and chase my dream," he said. The programme has helped narrow the digital divide between rural and urban children.

LeLe was once bright and ambitious, but after his father worked away from home and his parents divorced, he became withdrawn, his grades fell, and he frequently skipped school.

Oxfam's project social worker learned of his family situation and provided emotional support and counselling, helping him understand the divorce was not his fault and move past self-blame. The social worker also identified his talents, encouraging him to pursue arts education with ongoing positive guidance.

With this support, LeLe regained his confidence and threw himself into his studies. In the first half of 2026, he won first prize in a municipal science and innovation competition, and his artwork was exhibited at the Gansu Painting Academy. Once lost, he has grown into a confident, multi-talented young person.
